I figured it was time to test out my review skills!
Portable Play Yards are a great way to corral your littles for naptime. They make a great diaper changing station, and are perfect for when you are traveling to go visit friends and family. The Chicco Play Yard has not let me down yet. When Baby Bear was born, I set up the Play Yard’ s bassinet feature. It took a little bit of getting used to since there are a few steps involved. There are snaps on the end with little loops and oblong shaped buttons on the side. Two poles make sure the bottom of the bassinet does not curve to the sides or middle.
When the baby is over 15 pounds or can sit up, you should no longer use the bassinet. Another feature I still use is the changing table. Baby Bear is into everything these days and loves to alligator roll away as soon as he sees a fresh diaper. With the changing table, I can buckle him in and safely exchange dirty pants for fresh. The changer stores easily by zipping it to the play yard and letting it hang on the side. This would not be good, however, if you need to place it up against a wall.
Also handy for keeping a messy baby still!
Once Baby Bear was using not using the bassinet, it was much easier to fold up the play yard and put it away or store it in my car. To set up the play yard with just the bottom, it is as simple as locking the rails, pushing the bottom into place and placing the mat inside. One great thing about Chicco is that you can take the boards out of the mat and wash them! It is a very easy use friendly and child-safe product.
Here are some pros and cons:
Pro: Great colors, and easy to use.
Pro: Really soft mattress; every other play yard mattress I have seen is like sleeping on a rock with very
little cushion. It is also very washable.
Pro: Very cute plush toys come with that can be used on an activity mat or with the play yard.
Con: I hate using the bag to store it in. It is bulky and awkward to stuff the play yard into.
Con: I wish there were a place to store a box of wipes on the side of the play yard. There are mesh bags on
the side, but they are not very useful.
Con: The wheels lock up when you fold the play yard, this makes for a difficult time when you are pulling the bag and a baby and ten million different baby-related items. The handle is also not comfortable to carry, and it looks like the fabric right next to it may rip easily. However, this is a small design flaw and does not
affect how the product functions.
Summary:
I love the colors, and I love how much comfier it is over other products. It is very sturdy, but to me it is a great product for older babies. I would invest in a separate travel bassinet for tiny babies instead of using the one that comes with this product. We bring this to Nana’ s house and it has yet to look used at all (besides having to wash the mat every once in a while). I can set it up in less than a minute, and pack it in the same amount of time. It is easy to use and a sure buy for new parents!

I received the Chicco Play Yard as a baby shower gift.
